Anyone who takes a course on grief must come across Kubler Ross’s stages of grief. And though that theory has been disputed in so many ways, I believe the dispute can only remain within the confines of the prescribed occurrence of the stages. The fact is that a person would experience these emotions or state of mind at one time or the other during the grieving process. Psychology is a very interesting subject. I still can’t believe I rejected it for my first degree. What did I know then? We barely had any form of career counselling . Someone described anger as ‘unmet expectations’. I thought this definition seemed really apt. I mean, if I expect my husband to show up at 7pm for dinner and he doesn’t, I would be a bit upset, but I would get really angry if he showed up an hour later, without an explanation or an apology. My expectations of ‘being valued, being respected’ would definitely be unmet.
